The Turntable or Tape Stop Effect is popular in many genres of music and typically is made using a plugin. In this quick video tutorial, we will show how to Create a Turntable or Tape Stop Effect in Kontakt using nothing more than Pitch Bend modulation.
Because of the way turntables or reel-to-reel tape players worked, they had an interesting effect when stopping. They didn’t immediately stop and slowed down to a stop. This inadvertent effect was popularized in music by using a turntable or tape and simply pressing stop.
Today turntables are increasingly difficult to find and expensive. Tapes are even harder to find and more expensive. But this effect is still in demand. So much that software companies have made vst plugins to emulate the effect.
You can create a turntable or tape stop effect in Kontakt by modulating pitch bend by an octave. The effect sounds even more pronounced and authentic when you add four Pitch Bend modulation sources to the Modulation Router.
